Vending a little joy alongside the new microwaves

Vending a little joy alongside the new microwaves

Microwaveable munchables

We’re getting great feedback about the microwaves and vending machines available in the Library. Now you can reheat food from ready meals to homecooked wonders in seconds (well, minutes), all for free. Please leave the microwaves clean for the next person to use – spray cleaner and cleaning cloths are provided.

Vending a little joy

We’ve had the vending machines for longer but they are not as obvious. We still get students telling us they have yet to find them. They are tucked away around the corner behind the café. You have to head past the café and then keep heading round the back of the children’s books collection to the right to find them. There is usually a huge poster on display in front of the closed café telling folk which way to head when the café is closed, but people don’t always read the signs.

These use credit/debit cards like the café – the entire university went cashless a while ago – if you want to spend cash, head over to the nearby Tesco Metro just over the Museum Road roundabout and to your right, towards Gunwharf Quays and the Hard Interchange.

Why mention this now?

Saving money amid a freezing winter and escalating cost of living crisis is a priority for most students, so it’s worth knowing that the Library is warm and open for much of the holiday (but not every day – please check when we are open before trekking through a blizzard to get here!) and you can enjoy a hot meal here, just so long as you remember to bring it with you in a microwaveable container (no foil, I beg of you!) and heat it up. There’s even something good to read nearby – what more could you ask for?!

Just another example of #StudentLedChange

This might be a good time to mention that we thrive on student feedback and if you want to see something new introduced, please let us know all your ideas and we will see what can be done.
