Official partner of Portsmouth Pride 2025

It’s official – the University is an official partner of Portsmouth Pride 2025, which is on Saturday 11 June this year.

Whether you identify as LGBTQ+ or not, we hope to see you there – it’s a fun and colourful day out for all the family! LGBTQ+ Pride celebrates the complexity and diversity of sexual and gender and draws attention to the intensifying persecution of minorities everywhere.

The Pride march, an integral part of every Pride event, commemorates the 1969 Stonewall Inn riots in New York led by Black and Latinx trans people that sparked public notice of the pushback against the systemic and violent oppression of LGBTQ+ people, although LGBTQ+ activism long predates this. The UK’s biggest LGBTQ+ rights campaign group is named Stonewall and fights for the liberation of people of all sexual and gender identities, including cisgender, heterosexual people, because no one is free until our society accepts and includes us all just as we are.

Assistant Librarian (Promotions) at the University Library. An enthusiastic advocate of libraries, diversity, inclusion, equity, and social justice for all, inside and outside the workplace.
