Here to help you

Library staff are here to help you in person, by email, over live video chat, and live online 24/7. We can help you with everything from understanding Library services to finding everything you need for your assignments quickly and efficiently, and evaluating the reliability of information sources to referencing. Here’s a quick overview of all the ways you can get in touch and how we can help you succeed.
Chat with us online 24/7
You can chat with a real live librarian (never an AI bot!) online 24/7 online. Let us know what you are studying and what you need help with and our friendly team will be happy to help you:
- develop your search strategy to find relevant articles
- find information on a particular topic
- evaluate the reliability of information sources you have found
- find specialist information – images, video clips, laws and legal evidence, newspaper articles, market and company information, and more
- improve your referencing – from introducing how referencing works to explaining how specific sources should be referenced
Chat with us in person
Friendly Library staff are here to help you at the Library Help Desk, 11am – 3pm Monday-Friday. Stop by and chat face-to-face about:
- where to find the best information for your assignment(s);
- how to develop your search strategy to find the best information more quickly and efficiently;
- how to tell whether an information source is reliable;
- and how to cite and reference information sources you have used accurately.

Dedicated referencing help
You can ask all your referencing questions at the Help Desk or via online chat but we also offer bookable referencing appointments if you have a lot of referencing questions and want an online chat to work through them.
Watch out for referencing pop-ups in the Library Atrium (we have some this week, from 1-3 pm and ending this Friday, 4 April). The same help and advice is available (from the same librarians!) at the Library Help Desk all year round. Bring specific examples or problematic reference lists and we can point out any recurring mistakes and misunderstandings to help you improve your marks.
No question is too small, and the only silly questions are the ones you don’t ask!
Need something else?
Library staff are here to help, in person and online. Drop us an email, chat with us online or stop by the Library Help Desk and we will be happy to help. Not sure who to ask? Ask us – if we can’t help you ourselves, we’ll know who can!
