Building (roof) works noise disruption

Building works are taking place on the roof of the Library building in February-March 2025 to replace the boiler system. We regret this work will cause intermittent noise disruption to the top floor of the Library, including the Individual Silent Study Zone.

We are sorry for the unavoidable disruption while we carry out this essential work.

Alternative silent study spaces

Alternative individual silent study space can be found in the study pods on the ground floor of the Library. You might find our guide to avoiding busy spaces helpful.

Free, reusable, sound-cancelling earplugs are available from the Library Reception. Combined with drop-in meeting pods or other quieter spaces on the lower floors, these can create a quiet study environment.

Working remotely

If you find the Library too noisy an environment to study in while this building work is carried out, you can still access all our electronic resources online and we can reserve books for you to collect from the Atrium or post them to you.
