Reinventing the Postgraduate Study Suite
Joined up working
The University is embarking on an ambitious new project to join the University Library and Student Union buildings to create a luxurious new student hub featuring a diverse range of study spaces to suit all purposes and people. Alongside this, we are reviewing library space and focusing initially on a dedicated space for postgraduate study.
As this project approaches final planning consent approval, we are getting ready for work to begin that will see staff and student spaces transformed and ready for the future.
What is moving and when
We understand how important exclusive study space is for postgraduate study so we will ensure you enjoy a dedicated postgraduate study space as much as possible and certainly until after all the taught course assignments are submitted.
From 15 July, the Meeting Room (UL 0.12) will be exclusively for postgraduate students as Library staff move from their current office into the old postgraduate study suite. This will allow staff currently working in what will become the near end of the new student hub to move offices in turn as Library and Information Services staff embark on a complex series of office moves to free up as much space for you as possible.
By mid-October, you can expect to enjoy the use of a former open plan staff office on the ground floor of the Library. We can expect further developments as the student hub project develops.
The pinch point
We are still trying to find a space to offer postgraduate students between the end of September and mid-October. There are just a few short weeks at the start of the Autumn Term when the Meeting Room hosts ID checks for arriving international students while the new student study suite is not expected to be ready. It might be that everyone may be asked to use the diverse array of study spaces in the main library.
Watch this space!
We will be moving this study space to a temporary location the week beginning 15 July. This will mark the start of an ambitious and elaborate series of team and space moves, so please bear with us while we encounter the unexpected! We will keep you fully informed as everything develops.
