Viva the VPN: connecting you to everything you need
The University VPN (Virtual Private Network) is a lightweight app that lets you use library eresources from anywhere as if you were logged in onto a computer on campus. This is particularly useful if there is a problem logging into a resource, because connecting via the VPN usually solves it. There are also a handful of resources that can only be used on campus or using the VPN.
Simple setup
Installing the VPN is easy. Simply download the GlobalProtect VPN client from MyPort and log in. Ever afterwards, you can log in and connect whenever you need to use it. While connected, your computer will behave as if you were on campus, although the connection can be slower, so I always recommend using the VPN only when you need it.
There are stepwise instructions and short explanatory videos for setting the VPN up for various operating systems on MyPort. If you are still unsure or would like someone to walk you through the process, you can ask an IT Helper in any open access computer suite on campus or call the IS Service Desk on 023 9284 7777.
