Crafting@Lunch
Crafting@Lunch is a joyful initiative led by Emma Rogers, member of the professional services team in the CCi Faculty. It offers a weekly opportunity for members of staff and friends of the Faculty to get together for a relaxing hour of craft, conversation and biscuits. Emma says,
Crafting on your lunch break has been proven to reduce stress, encourage mindfulness, boost creativity, promote a sense of calm and provide opportunities to connect. With this in mind, a group of staff has been meeting for weekly ‘Crafting @ Lunch’ sessions, during which we’ve worked on a range of projects including crochet, embroidery and felt work.
We are proud to display some of the work here in the University Library’s first floor display cabinet with the intention of inspiring others to have a go themselves. Alongside the craft works, some of which are still in progress, you will see some books that either inspired the work or could offer new challenges for the crafters. Some of these books are available to borrow and you will find plenty of other inspirational books on the library shelves.
Stitch journal by T-J Cuckow.
The majority of art, design, craft and recreation books can be found on the first floor in the 700s. Take a look at our Book locations guide or search the library catalogue to help you find what you are looking for.
You may also be interested in accessing some craft magazines, for example, from our international PressReader database. It includes a diverse range of publications from The Knitter and Crochet World to Popular Woodworking and Model Airplane News. My personal favourite (available via a different service) is Selvedge Magazine for all things related to textiles. Remember to Login in using your University credentials and if you’re not sure how to do that, please ask for help from the library 24/7 chat team – once you know how, it’s easy!
Enjoy!

All these skilled crafters in our midst! How wonderful to be able to show everyone’s passion projects. Well done Greta and all the contributors.
Thanks to Greta for curating this display! If any staff would like to join an hour of slow making, whatever your craft leanings – please do, and feel free to bring your lunch too !
We meet in Eldon building Room 1.02 from 12-1pm each Wednesday and everyone is welcome
