If you haven’t yet stopped by the Library, I’d thoroughly recommend you make a detour to see our latest incredible photography exhibition by travel and documentary photographer Md Abdulla Al Mamun. Check out his Instagram feed for more of his unique insight into how images can remind us of our profound interconnectedness and the unspoken bond between species, emphasizing that we, as humans, share the same space and responsibilities as the animals and nature that surround us.

Through my work as a travel, documentary photographer, I have had the opportunity to capture moments where humanity and nature intersect in the most unexpected and beautiful ways. In every corner of the world, there are stories unfolding that showcase the delicate balance between the concrete jungles we build and the natural world that continues to coexist alongside us.

This exhibition is not only a collection of images but a powerful message I feel compelled to share with the next generation — one that highlights the profound connection between humans, animals, and the natural world around us. As a photographer who has travelled to various cities across the globe, I have come to realize that this relationship is essential for the survival and health of our urban spaces.

We are lucky enough to have local artist and Senior Teaching Fellow in Nursing at the University of Portsmouth, Simon Holliday is displaying two imaginative exhibits of his imaginative work, both related, either directly or indirectly, to the local landscape. Come see them in all their glory on the first floor landing!

Art of Glass is probably best described as a body of sculptural work which I’ve been constructing using found objects. The project is born out of my habitual tendency towards beachcombing. In particular, this tendency to collect objects of interest from the shoreline around Hampshire.

Simon’s photographic exhibition, the Serenissima of the South Coast, describes a walking tour of Portsmouth as a city in decline.
