Have you found the Duty Librarian yet?

The duty librarian desk: now mask free but still with a ‘sneeze shield’ to keep everyone safe.

It sometimes feels like the Duty Librarian office is our best kept secret. Covid secure procedures meant we had to keep the most obvious door to the space closed… until today!

From today, we are flinging open all the doors to this corner office and welcoming in everyone and their friend (there really isn’t space for many more than two people, sadly) to pop in and get expert advice on everything from accessing eresources to designing a search strategy that will help you find all the information you need for an assignment or project. We can also help with referencing, finding books, sourcing workarounds for problem eresources, and helping get you a copy of anything we don’t hold in stock.

It’s great to be able to get instant answers from anywhere over the internet using the online chat service but sometimes nothing beats actually being able to show the librarian the paper or book you are having difficulty with and discussing your problems with them. We have two screens, so you can watch in real time as the librarian demonstrates how to search a database and builds a search, explaining each step as they go – something that is much easier than through online text chat. Not to mention that it is just nice to see a friendly face when you are feeling a little lost.

Pop in and see us on Mondays – Fridays, 9 am – 5 pm (except Bank Holidays). We look forward to helping you!
