Re-carpeting the first floor

The re-carpeting work postponed from earlier in the summer is now taking place. The work is expected to finish on 13 September.

The work will be completed in blocks, proceeding across Area 1A, the main area of the first floor housing stock with shelfmarks 326.42072 – 690.99. We expect book stock to be available almost all the time. There may be a few minutes while certain shelfmark ranges are inaccessible as the carpet layers work their way along shelves. Some walkways may also be closed but at least one route to every shelving unit will remain available.

Please take care when on the first floor while this work is taking place. If you need to access shelves near where a contractor is working, please ask them if you can safely reach those shelves. If you cannot access stock you need, we recommend completing and submitting a reservation card at the Welcome Desk in the Atrium. We will try to make any books so reserved available by the end of the next working day.

Area 1B, which houses stock with shelfmarks 700-809 will be unaffected.
