PsycINFO update (4 June 2019)

Our main Psychology resource, PsycINFO, is scheduled for a major update, expected to go live on Tuesday 4 June 2019.  This “reload” will implement the latest APA thesaurus tool.  Medical subject headings will be added as a search field and the default list of search fields will expand, so you might find that the default search returns more results from 4 June than before thanks to it searching these subjects headings and other new fields.

Change to MP searching

Following customer demand, OVID are adding the PsycINFO MesH (MH) medical subject heading field to the .MP field list for unqualified searches. After the reload, Ovid Advanced Search will change its default fields for PsycINFO to:

[mp=title, abstract, heading word, table of contents, key concepts, original title, tests & measures, MeSH]

Please note, existing saved searches and AutoAlerts may therefore return more results than before because they are also searching MeSH terms.

APA Thesaurus changes (already in place)

As announced on 16 March 2019, Ovid has applied new APA thesaurus tool in advance of the reload. The following changes have been implemented already:

  • 25 existing subject headings* are being replaced in the new APA thesaurus. These subject headings are no longer available for use in PsycINFO on Ovid.
  • 16 new subject headings. These subject headings are indexed already, but are not part of the thesaurus tool until the reload.
  • 5 deleted subject headings*

*These changes affect existing saved searches and AutoAlerts. Please refer to our message from 16 March for a complete overview.
