PokemonGo comes to campus

Pablo meets a Machop Pokemon on the pebbles in Area 0AThe University Library is a PokemonGo gym – yours to join, collect the resident digital pets, battle and defend!

PokemonGo has gripped the headlines over the past few weeks but what has just started to emerge are the hidden dangers it poses for the unwary.  The app clearly warns players of the dangers of focusing on capturing their next digital specimen at the expense of  paying sufficient attention to where they are walking.  At university, stairwells and roads are the biggest hazards to the unwary with both eyes fixed on a screen.  Elsewhere in the world the dangers are far worse: two youths in Florida were nearly being shot by a homeowner who mistook them for burglars, while in Bosnia authorities are warning that in an unfortunate oversight the app developers have blithely created Pokemon that spawn over active minefields!
