Map Librarian’s work makes it onto a map

A photo that our Map Librarian, David Sherren, took of Wast Water in the Lake District in 2007 has been chosen to illustrate the Scafell Pike cover of the Ordnance Survey’s new Three Peaks Challenge map, published on 16th June 2016.  The photo is one of three alternative covers that may be chosen when a copy of the map is purchased, the others including Ben Nevis and Snowdon.
The Three Peaks Challenge involves climbing the three highest peaks in England, Wales and Scotland, often within 24 hours (including the travel time).  The record is held by Joss Naylor who completed the challenge on 8th July 1971 in a remarkable 11 hours and 56 minutes. David  estimates it would take him half that time just to climb Scafell Pike!

Assistant Librarian (Promotions) at the University Library. An enthusiastic advocate of libraries, diversity, inclusion, equity, and social justice for all, inside and outside the workplace.
