Creative Arts Book of the Week 04/01/16
Fashion entrepreneurship: retail business and planning by Michele M. Granger and Tina Sterling (2nd edition).
This lovely book was ordered for the art and design unit Enterprise planning and retail and has just arrived. See the reading list here. The unit enables students to develop an awareness and understanding of the commercial context of fashion and textile design by setting up and working within a fashion and textiles related SME (small to medium enterprise).
This book does not fail; it is stuffed full of good advice about setting up your own fashion retail business. In addition to exploring entrepreneurship, management and market segmentation, the text covers the financial aspects of running a business. Profiles of successful entrepreneurs and exercises will allow students to apply the process to their own concepts. This new edition also includes internet business development, new case studies reflecting the current retail climate and updated coverage of global markets. There is also a CD ROM containing business plan template instructions, a blank business plan template and a financial planning template; together with electronic files for the assignments that appear at the end of each chapter. So if you are borrowing the book, you lose the CD ROM at your peril! Warning: this disc may not be compatible with a Mac.
Fashion entrepreneurship: retail business and planning can be found here in the library catalogue. This book has been classified under Business (658) so generic business information would be useful for students within the Strategy, Enterprise and Innovation department of PBS or anyone interested in setting up an SME and selling a different product. If you want to explore fashion entrepreneurship further try looking at the Enterprise planning and retail reading list. I put the list together myself and there are some good learning resources to investigate.
