Sadly, only two gulls left

gull-bigIt is with a heavy heart that Library Twitcher must report that one of the Herring Gull chicks was killed in a freak accident with a closing window.  The operating mechanism and window placement is in such a position that the operator is unable to see the window areas that are being closed.  The body of the chick was spotted early on Friday, 26 June by Library Twitcher.  The death happened on Thursday, 26 June as all three chicks were seen scampering around on their roof earlier in the day.

The other two chicks appear to be healthy as they are behaving in the same manner as last year’s chicks, and all three of that clutch fledged.  If the weight of the third chick is anything to go by, the other two are well on their way to flight school.
