Creative Arts Book of the Week 23/04/14

What kind of Western comprised over a third of all Westerns financed by German producers?  

That’s just the kind of thing you can find out in Germany 2 our latest addition to the Directory of World Cinema series.  This nicely illustrated, accessible series will introduce you to the key concepts of world cinema.  Germany 2 provides essays relating to key directors including Fritz Lang,  famous for Metropolis. 

There are essays and film reviews on topics such as the Western, Literary Adaptations, Musicals, Crime and Experimental Film.  You can test your knowledge with a quiz and if you want to take your research further you can follow up on some of the recommended reading and online resources.

At least one of our very own lecturers has contributed to the series, Lincoln Geraghty from the School of Creative Arts Film and Media.  He is editor of American Hollywood which is one of the series available as an ebook.  Not all of the titles are available from the library as ebooks, so you might find it useful to have a look at the Directory of World Cinema website which features reviews and biographies of directors.
