The Mary Rose
The flagship of Henry VIII’s navy. All set to engage in battle against the French only to sink on her maiden voyage in front of the King himself in 1545. It lay in the Solent until it was raised in 1982.

I thought this was a pretty ‘special’ story until I learned that it was repeated in very similar conditions by the Swedish ‘Vasa’ not 100 years later. If you’re in Stockholm, it’s worth a visit:
